Data Migration Manager

Data Migration Manager (DMM) is IFS Cloud's built-in tool for loading master and transactional data into the system, most commonly during implementation and cutover.

It works around four pieces:

  1. Media Item Providers define the connection to a data source, typically an Excel file or a database staging table.
  2. Media Item Types map the columns in that source to the fields and logical units (LUs) in IFS Cloud, including any transformation rules applied on the way in.
  3. Load Sets group Media Item Types into a sequenced batch, so parent records (a customer, say) load before the child records that reference them (that customer's addresses).
  4. Job execution runs a Load Set, logs every row that failed validation with a reason, and lets you correct and re-run only those rows rather than the whole batch.

DMM enforces IFS Cloud's own business rules at load time, which is why a record can be perfectly formatted in the source file and still get rejected: the tool is checking it against the same logic the application would apply if a user typed it in by hand.

The practical implication for a migration project: DMM is the execution engine, not the design work. The mapping decisions (how a legacy status code becomes an IFS Cloud state, what happens to a customer with no valid tax ID) still have to be made before DMM runs, usually the same work covered under general "data migration" scope.
